I’ve spent the last 5 days wasting time on my favourite time waster of the moment, the iPad.

After realising I haven’t written anything for the 5 days I’ve been consumed by this new toy I thought it was time to make all that wasted time count for something.

What I have realised this past week is how rare it is that I get to sit down and read blogs and search for web sites that interest me and lose myself in their content for as long as I like. I also found out that there are so many awesome sites out there that I was a bit overwhelmed.  I know I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating – there are some truly amazing and inspiring writers out there.

So I thought I’d share some of the wonderful blogs and web sites I’ve discovered, or rediscovered, over the past week that have inspired me.

Life Optimizer: www.lifeoptimizer.org
This blog, which is about “living your life to the fullest” had so much inspirational writing on it that I read through a year’s worth of archives in a day. I couldn’t get enough. It’s been going for a few years now and every post gives me a special boost.  The profile of the host of this blog, Donald Latumahina, is also inspiring. It’s great to read about someone who is so obviously passionate about what they do and getting others excited about it as well.

Creative Creativitywww.creativecreativity.com/writing/
While this blog doesn’t have any recent posts I stumbled across the archives on writing and found some really interesting posts, including a fantastic post on controversial writer Nick Mamatas about how much of what we write really comes from us, and a great insight into how using the rules for improv can help get improve your writing.

The Better Man Projectthebettermanprojects.wordpress.com
I’ve only recently discovered this blog but it has quickly become one of my all-time favourites.  The title is what grabbed me but the inspiring posts are what have kept me coming back.  Brilliant!

Ezine Articlesezinearticles.com/?cat=Writing-and-Speaking
This site has some great articles submitted by writers from all over the world and the ones on writing are diverse and very interesting (see the brilliant article “Ten Lessons That Star Trek Can Teach You About Writing” for an example of how great writing tips and inspiration really can come from anywhere).

My Body the City: The Secret Life of a Callgirl – secretlifeofamanhattancallgirl.wordpress.com
Another new discovery but what a discovery it was!  The writing on this blog is so powerful and the stories, feelings and experiences related by Stella Marr are probably my favourite examples of how a truly great writer can deeply affect her readers with gutsy, honest prose. Probably one of my most admired writers of the moment.

All in all, I guess it wasn’t such a wasted week.  I have learnt so much this past week, not just about tips to help with my writing but also about how exciting it is to discover writers whose work and ideas inspire me to be better.  That’s not really such a bad way to spend my time after all.
