100 blessings in every day

I was listening to an interview this morning with a Jewish Rabbi who said that a large part of the Jewish faith is finding blessings in every day.  In fact, they try to find 100 blessings in every day.

I thought this was such a great way to look at each day – as a string of blessings, one after the other.

There is a lot that goes on in my day that I’m not even aware of but I get to the end of each day feeling so grateful for what I have and what I have achieved that day.  I love the idea of being aware of these blessings and showing gratitude for each of these gifts throughout the day.

So, even though it’s still pretty early in the day I already have a list of things I am truly grateful for:

  • I am grateful for the beautiful sunrise I see each morning on my walk (see pic above)
  • I’m grateful for the gorgeous weather we’ve been having – sunshine and rain, cool mornings, perfect snuggle weather.
  • I’m grateful for my friend Jane who I have an inspirational lunch with each week as we catch up on each other’s lives.
  • I’m grateful for the time I have in my life to do what I truly love – writing.
  • I’m grateful for the water that comes out of my tap (In some countries, like Uganda for example, families send their kids on a 2-hour walk with buckets just to collect that day’s water supply)
  • I’m grateful for the beautiful food we have growing in our region and the farmers who work so hard to provide fresh fruit and veges to our community.
  • I’m grateful for my bed, which is almost as old as I am but still gives me the best sleep I’ve ever had.
  • I’m grateful for my home, as small as it is.  It leaks when it rains and seems to be a haven for every spider in the neighbourhood but I have never felt more comfortable than I am here.
  • I’m grateful for the bloggers who keep me motivated and excited every day with their poetry, inspiration and insightful writings.  There are so many talented, gifted and clever writers out there and I love that I can take in their wonderful blogs any time of the day.

Yes, I have a lot to be grateful for today, and every day.  And I hope I never lose sight of that.
